There are 3 new bosses in the Ashen Realm. We also changed socket stones, item bonuses, poison, life steal, group EXP and many items.
"Before" means the game now. "Now" means the game after this update.
Why we made these changes
Since launch, we have watched how you play. Some item bonuses were stronger than they should be, upgrading stones was not worth the cost, and poison, life steal and group EXP needed better tuning.
Swordwound is built to be an MMORPG you play for years, not a game you finish in a week. For that, progress needs to last, and there must always be a next goal to reach.
So we rebalanced some items and item bonuses. This is not only about lower numbers. It is about making every upgrade, every bonus and every step forward count.
Nothing is taken away: your bonuses keep their grade and your stones keep their level.
New bosses in the Ashen Realm
The Ashen Realm now has 3 bosses. They all use fire. Each boss has its own special attacks. Each boss drops gold, its own card and its own chest. The chests also have other items. The big prize: all 3 chests have a rare chance to give the level 60 weapons Contrarian and Flame Staff.
New
Crimson Hive King, level 66
- Crimson Slam: a strong hit.
- Ember Volley: it throws fireballs at players.
- Hive Call: Crimson Larvae come to help it.
- Royal Grasp: it grabs one player. Hit the boss to save your friend.
- Guard Call: Crimson Hive Guards and Crimson Buds appear. They do not move. The Buds attack from far away.

How damage bonuses work now
Average Damage and Skill Damage now work in the simplest way: if it says 20%, you get 20% more damage.
- Change Average Damage makes your normal attacks stronger by its exact percent. Example: a 100 damage hit with 20% Average Damage now does 120.
- Nerf Average Damage does not make skills stronger anymore. It only works on normal attacks.
- Change Skill Damage makes your skills stronger by its exact percent.
- Change The Attack number in your character window can look lower now. This is only the number on the screen. Your real damage is not lower.
Why: before, it was hard to see what Average Damage really did.
Combat
Life steal
Before | Now | |
|---|---|---|
How much it heals | A fixed amount of health on every hit (max 25) | A % of the health you lost |
Which hits | Every hit, skills too | Normal attacks only |
Hitting many enemies | Heals once per enemy | Heals once |
Max total | No total limit | 2% in total |
Why: one skill on many enemies could heal you to full health.
Poison and bleeding
Poison and bleeding come from your normal attacks. Each one hits once every second, 5 times. You can put more than one on the same enemy. The damage depends on how much health the enemy has right now.
Before | Now | |
|---|---|---|
Poison | Every 3 seconds, for 30 seconds: 5% of a player's max health (max 8% on monsters) | Every second, for 5 seconds: 0.6% of the health it has now (0.3% on players). Poison cannot kill anymore. |
Bleeding | 18 damage every second for 5 seconds | Every second, for 5 seconds: 0.4% of the health it has now (0.2% on players). Bleeding can kill. |
How many at the same time | Only one at a time | More than one. You can put 3 poisons and 3 bleeds on one enemy. A monster can have max 12 of each (from all players). A player can have max 6. |
On bosses | 3% of max health every 3 seconds | 10% of the normal damage |
Max per hit | None | One hit of poison or bleed is never more than 25% of the attack that caused it |
Why: before, poison alone could take half of an enemy's health, even a boss. Now it is extra damage, not your main damage.
Other combat changes
- Change You cannot stun bosses anymore.
- Change Monsters that never move cannot be pushed anymore. They block your way, like a boss.
- Change If a monster is a higher or lower level than you, it matters less now. Your damage changes 2% per level (before 4%). The max is 30% (before 60%).
- Change Critical Chance now shows one number after the dot, like 4.8%.
Skills
Buff Ember Blade (Warrior)

Ember Blade now gets 2 times more attack power from your Strength.
Example: a level 50 character with 100 Strength. Ember Blade attack power:
Skill level | Before | Now | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
Novice 1 | 17 | 22 | +5 |
Master 1 | 119 | 153 | +34 |
Grandmaster 1 | 231 | 297 | +66 |
Perfect 1 | 350 | 450 | +100 |
Nerf Iron Body (Warrior)

Iron Body gives you more defense, but you move slower. It was too strong, so now you move even slower. The slow is now a number, not a %. It is -1 to -25 movement speed. It depends on your skill level.
Skill level | Movement speed before | Movement speed now |
|---|---|---|
Novice 1 | -1% | -1 |
Master 1 | -5% | -9 |
Grandmaster 1 | -8% | -15 |
Perfect 1 | -12% | -20 |
Nerf Battle Fury (Warrior)

Battle Fury makes you attack and move faster, but you take more damage while it is on. Now you take even more damage.
Skill level | Extra damage taken before | Extra damage taken now |
|---|---|---|
Novice 1 | 0.25% | 5% |
Master 1 | 4.9% | 12.9% |
Grandmaster 1 | 9.9% | 21.5% |
Perfect 1 | 15% | 30% |
Socket stones
Socket stones go into the holes (sockets) in your items. To upgrade a stone by 1 level, you use 2 other stones of the same level.
- Buff Stones can now go up to +20 (before +10).
- New The 2 stones you use can be any type. Example: to upgrade a +2 Attack Stone, you can use any two +2 stones you do not need.
- Buff The first upgrades cost much less gold.
- Change The Average Damage Stone now really gives Average Damage. This also works for stones already in your weapons.
- Change All stones have new numbers. Every level is a little stronger than the last one, up to +20.
- Change Stones in your items get the new numbers right away. A +2 stone stays +2.
Why: before, a +10 stone cost millions but was only 2 times better than a +0 stone. Now every upgrade is worth it.

Jewelry stones
You make jewelry stones from ore. They go into jewelry.
- Change Jewelry stones now only go into necklaces, earrings and bracelets. 3 in each, 9 in total. You cannot put them in rings, belts, talismans or shields anymore.
- Buff Making a jewelry stone now costs 30,000 gold (before 90,000, and 140,000 for the Minor Magic Defense Stone).
- Change Arc Amethyst is now called Sage Amethyst. It now gives Intelligence, not attack power.
- Change Minor Magic Defense Stone is now called Giantshield Opal. It now gives Boss Damage Resistance, not magic defense.
Why: before, you had 24 jewelry sockets, so critical and defense got much too high.

Third socket at level 60
- Change Weapons and armor now get their 3rd socket at level 60.
- Nerf These weapons (level 45 to 55) now have 2 sockets, not 3. Did you have a stone in the 3rd socket? You get it back in your mail when you log in. It keeps its level.

Item bonuses
Item bonuses are extra stats that items can have when they drop. Each bonus has 4 grades: 1 is the weakest, 4 is the strongest.
Why: item bonuses and socket stones give the same stats, so now they use the same numbers. Before, one good bonus could be better than a better item.
- Change Bonuses on your items keep their grade but get the new number. Example: a grade 3 Critical Chance bonus was 7%, now it is 3%.
- Nerf Items with 2 bonuses now drop less often.

Potion Speed
Change Health Regeneration is now called Potion Speed. It makes your health potions and Essence of Life heal you faster. It does not change your normal health regeneration anymore. The most Potion Speed you can have is 100%. At 100%, potions heal 2 times faster.

Weapons
Buff Level 30 and level 60 weapons
Before, a level 30 weapon at +7 was much weaker than a level 40 weapon at +7. Upgrading it was a waste. Now these weapons have the same attack as the weapon 10 levels higher. With their Average Damage and Skill Damage, they are even a little better.

Nerf Contrarian and Flame Staff bonuses
Their attack is now as strong as level 70 weapons, so we made their bonuses lower.
Weapon | Before | Now | |
|---|---|---|---|
![]() | Contrarian | 20% to 80% Average Damage | 10% to 40% Average Damage |
![]() | Flame Staff | 20% to 80% Average Damage | 10% to 40% Average Damage |
From +0 to the top upgrade level. Strong Against Players did not change.
Buff Thousand Year Sword and Awakening Staff (level 95)
Weapon | Before | Now | |
|---|---|---|---|
![]() | Thousand Year Sword | No Average Damage | 10% to 40% Average Damage |
![]() | Awakening Staff | No Average Damage | 10% to 40% Average Damage |

Drops
Nerf Gear above level 30 drops less often
Weapons, armor and jewelry above level 30 now drop less often. This is for monsters, bosses, boss chests and dungeons. Materials, stones, potions, cards, gold and items up to level 30 did not change.
Why: when good items are rare, every drop feels special.
Change Boss chests
The boss card is not in the boss chest anymore. The boss drops the card itself. This is true for all boss chests:
Chest | Chest | ||

![]() | Valley Guardian Chest | ![]() | Poison Bud Chest |

Buff Bestiary cards
Bestiary cards drop from monsters. They give you stats forever.
- Cards now drop even if the monster is a much higher or lower level than you.
- Every boss now drops its card every time it dies.
- Many cards in Frenzied Plains, Thirsting Desert and the Ashen Realm only gave Strength. Now they give Strength, Agility, Vitality or Intelligence, based on the monster. Stats you already got from these cards move to the new stat.
Groups
Some players made a group but played far away from each other to get the group EXP bonus. Now the bonus only works when you play together.
- Nerf You do not get extra EXP for each member anymore (before +10% for each member).
- Change The group bonus only works if at least 1 member is near the leader. Only members near the leader get it.
- Change Kills only count for the group level when the bonus is on.
- Buff The max group level is now 10 (before 5). Each level gives 12.5% EXP (before 10%). At group level 10 you get 125% more EXP.
- Change A new group starts with 4 places. It gets more places when the group levels up (before always 8).
- New The group window shows if your group bonus is on.
Group level | Monsters killed together | EXP bonus | Most players |
|---|---|---|---|
0 | 0 | 0% | 4 |
1 | 100 | 12.5% | 4 |
2 | 1,000 | 25% | 5 |
3 | 5,000 | 37.5% | 5 |
4 | 25,000 | 50% | 6 |
5 | 100,000 | 62.5% | 6 |
6 | 250,000 | 75% | 7 |
7 | 600,000 | 87.5% | 7 |
8 | 1,250,000 | 100% | 8 |
9 | 2,500,000 | 112.5% | 8 |
10 | 5,000,000 | 125% | 8 |
Your group keeps its kills. If your group has more players than the new limit, nobody is removed. You just cannot invite new players until the group is smaller.
Items and your island

![]() | Mind Extract | Does not stack anymore. Each bottle uses 1 slot. |
![]() | Essence of Life | Does not stack anymore. Each bottle uses 1 slot. |
![]() | Wooden Floor | You can click on it to walk on it. You now stand on top of it. |
- Change When you log in, your Mind Extract and Essence of Life stacks become single bottles. If your bag is full, you get the rest in your mail.
- Change Empty bottles disappear right away. Empty bottles you already have are removed when you log in.
- New Each bottle shows how much is left (as a small %).
- Buff Island furniture now stacks in your bag.
Screens and buttons
- New In your character window, put your mouse on a number (on phone: tap it). You can see where the number comes from.
- New If you lose connection, you see "Reconnecting, please wait". After 30 seconds, you get a button to refresh the page.
- New If your character is on a server that we are fixing, the game asks you to wait a little. This keeps your progress safe.
- Fix The buttons in the bottom right are now in 2 rows. They do not cover your potion and skill slots anymore.
- Fix On phones, the Confirm button in the upgrade window does not go off the screen anymore.
Servers
- Fix Your progress is always saved now when a server restarts. Before, you could lose the last few minutes.
- Fix Trades now finish for both players at the same time, or they do not happen at all.
- Fix We fixed the high ping on the Europe server.
- Change Some maps have more than one copy (layer). If each copy has only a few players, we move the players into one copy. You get a message 10 seconds before. We do not move you if you are fighting, trading, in a duel or dead.

v0.40.9: Extra fixes
Balance
- Monsters above your level now give less bonus EXP. The bonus is now 40% at most. Before, it was 80%.
- Monsters below your level now give less EXP. For example, a monster 5 levels below you gives 70% EXP (before: 92%). A monster 10 levels below you gives 20% EXP (before: 50%).
- Thirsting Desert: monsters give 40% less EXP.
- Thirsting Desert: gold drops now go up evenly with level. At level 40 a monster drops 83 to 125 gold. At level 60 it drops 122 to 183 gold.
- Thirsting Desert: there are 30% fewer monsters. Bosses did not change.
- Ashen Realm: the map now opens at level 60. Monsters are now level 60 to 75.
- Ashen Realm: monster EXP and gold now go up evenly with level.
- Sleeping Dragon Cape: you now need level 75 to enter, not 70.
Items and stones
- Some stones now go in a different item type. For example, the Resistance Stone is now a jewelry stone. If a stone is in an item where it does not fit anymore, we take it out and send it to your mail.
- Some items have a new number of sockets. These items now really get the new number. Before, old settings could keep them at the old number.
- This also works for items in your island chests and in the Auction House. If an item has too many stones, you get the extra stones back. If the item is for sale, or someone bought it but did not pick it up yet, we remove it from the Auction House and send it back to the seller.
Groups
- We changed how groups work, so all groups will be closed. You can make a new group at any time.
